Thanks to the students and staff at TKGS, MediaCorp’s Campus on 938 Live team and my fellow panelists for the lively discussion this morning on social networking. I won’t repeat what was said because there will be a podcast of this session which I will link to when ready. Firstly, can I say that I…
I’ve noticed a trend – at least, on [my own Twitter profile](http://twitter.com/vantan) – where a number of random Twitter users start following me. Their Twitter usernames and posts are about subjects that have little relation to my own tweets. This makes me suspect that they may not be following me out of genuine interest. This…
As I’m now at a relatively high level in [Mob Wars](http://apps.facebook.com/mobwars/), I’ve found myself becoming a minnow even with over 100 mob members to back me up in fights. Most others have 200-500+ members in their mob, making them hard to beat. Thus, when I do see someone with a smaller mob size, I attack…
Dr Andy drew my attention to this cool [Friend Wheel generator](http://apps.facebook.com/friendwheel/) on Facebook. It processes your list of friends into a wheel, drawing lines of connection to each other to form a beautiful chart. Friends’ names are coloured according to how ‘hot’ or cold they are in terms of interlinks. I tried it out for…
As some of my good friends know, I’m addicted to [Mob Wars](http://apps.facebook.com/mobwars/) on Facebook. It’s become a bit less exciting now that I’ve bought every weapon and property that can be bought. It is also not very fun getting my ass whipped as I progress to the higher levels because almost everyone there has a…
So it seems that a [second friend](http://vantan.org/archives/2008/04/facebook_hackin.php#comment-86776) has had her Facebook account broken into. I urge everyone not to list any personal details on their profiles, such as your email address and mother’s maiden name. If you haven’t logged in recently, do so just to make sure everything’s OK. Both my friends hadn’t logged into…
Seems that there is Facebook hacking and spamming going on. The situation is still unfolding, but one of my Facebook contacts started posting penis enlargment messages on my wall. As she is usually quite professional, I figured her account got hacked. So did some of her friends. Then I did a search and turns out…
Want to find out which are the hottest buzzwords on Facebook? Check out [Lexicon](http://www.facebook.com/lexicon/), which was [launched](http://www.insidefacebook.com/2008/04/15/facebook-lexicon-visualizes-conversation-trends-on-facebook/) on 15 April 2008. Lexicon counts occurrences of words and phrases on Facebook Walls, over time. I made a few searches. Not surprisingly, “Obama” appears more frequently than “Clinton. The sharp spikes make sense as they corresponded with…
I hear [Bill Gates](http://blogs.wsj.com/biztech/2008/02/12/bill-gates-quits-facebook/) and Mark Zuckerberg ([limited profile](http://www.facebook.com/s.php?k=100000080&id=4)) get loads of [Facebook](http://facebook.com/) friend requests. On the other end of the spectrum, the average Joe probably has a smaller list of people whom he actually knows. He doesn’t add anyone he doesn’t know. That’s straightforward. For the rest of us, somewhere in between, we may…
