I am pleased to report that I have been offered a place in INSEAD. My mobile phone rang in the afternoon and it was from France. It didn’t occur to me at first because I was expecting the news later in the week.
It was the Admissions Coordinator with whom I was corresponding during the course of my application. She told me the good news and seemed genuinely happy that I was happy. We chatted for a bit longer. Then I thanked her and we hung up. I took a few deep breaths.
The first person I called was my mother. She was pleased for me as she has always supported my pursuit of an MBA - even before I myself was interested in getting one. Even better, it was her birthday! I had dreamed of getting into INSEAD and telling her the good news on her birthday, and it really happened! Thank God for getting me a place and for timing the news just right.
Then my dad messaged me, so I messaged him back with the good news. Next, I absolutely had to tell my ex-boss who had moved to a neighbouring department downstairs. He was a real gem, the best mentor I’ve had so far, and he was one of my referees. However, I walked into a dark, empty room. He had left! I knew he was retiring soon and we already threw him a grand farewell party… but I had only just seen him the week before and didn’t expect it to be so soon. His staff told me he might be on holiday.
So I messaged him as well, and he replied to congratulate me and said he knew I will do well. I also messaged my other referee and he too sent an encouraging reply. I really should treat these two gentlemen for dinner.
