Pet Shop Toys

July 30, 2002 11:23 AM

The concert was all right I guess. I wasn't terribly impressed by anything because the Boys are getting old and lethargic. They've taken in some new blood (guitarists and a female drummer) but I don't like their new sound. I'm a fan of the 80's and 90's, and so was almost everybody else in the half-filled stadium.

What got me interested was the kind of equipment they were using. Two laptops, one visibly a Powerbook. There were five keyboards in total, three of which were on a rack. The small silver one on top was a KORG Prophecy. The small red one in the middle looked like a Moog, the same one used in the Jamiroquai concert. There was another bigger red keyboard at the bottom deck and it said something-'electra'. [update: It's a Nord Electra. ]

Chris Lowe as usual was manning the keyboards while another guy controlled the computers. Neil Tennant was old, balding, slightly paunchy and strummed a guitar which I seldom heard above the din created by the overpowering bass.

Their official website is pretty informative, nonetheless: petshopboys.co.uk

wedding hangover?

July 29, 2002 1:52 PM

No I didn't get drunk, but after all that energy spent clinking my chopsticks onto various bowls and glasses*, taking photographs and last but not least, playing for the wedding march, I was rather tired.

Congratulations to the happy couple, and may their marriage be a blessed and productive one! >:-)

* - clinking was used during that dinner to indicate that we guests would like the couple to kiss. They happily complied. All the time.

Thursday's child...

The one and only church rehearsal is over. I got to see the groom-to-be skipping down the aisle. I also got to play the piece twice on a decent electric piano ... and finally solved my problem of having a page turner who is either a stranger, can't read scores, or both - by getting Kevin Tong, who won't be playing his guitar until the worship songs come on. Phew!

Bridal Shower more of a Hen Party

July 25, 2002 12:53 PM

Woo hoo! Just came home from Brenda's (parents-in-law's) place at Pasir Panjang. The bridal shower began with some dinner - a mix of roast chicken and sushi - and several bottles of champagne. After they were finished, Brenda claimed she was sloshed but we weren't too sure about that.

But before we had time to make her drink to another toast, a tall, lean Caucasian man in a black suit strode into the room. And the real fun began! Pity we only had one camera and after two photos, it ran out of film! I had no idea about it until I reached her place, actually, so I plead ignorance...

Tomorrow (oh, it's now today) is the rehearsal at church, I really have to get my act together starting NOW. I'm going off to the piano for a quick practice session before I sleep. Goodnight!

Bridal showers, summer storms

July 24, 2002 12:00 PM

What to get for Brenda's bridal shower? Up to last night I had no idea what it was about - until her sister called to tell me there was going to be one ... today!

But the good thing is that I'm back in touch with my old friend and partner in crime, Wanxi. We're going to be shopping today (at different times in different places) and hopefully we can find something worthwhile.

Wish me luck.

Up and running - with Movable Type

Hello all,

I'm so pleased with myself. I've finally installed my new content management system for my weblogs and other updates. No this isn't like using a machine gun to kill an ant; it's a learning experience for me too, and my church's website may need it for the convenience of updates.
